Biochar is a solid material obtained by high temperature pyrolysis of biomass-based feedstock. At high temperatures and in an anaerobic environment, the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the biomass feedstock are removed, leaving a stable carbonaceous residue, which is called biochar. It can exist in the soil for thousands of years.

On 1 August 2024, Haiqi successfully delivered a 1 tonne biomass steam generator to a customer in Thailand.

The yield of biochar is not fixed. It is related to many factors. Any slight difference in feedstock, pyrolysis time, pyrolysis speed, etc. will affect the biochar yield.

Biomass pyrolysis converts feed materials such as straw, waste wood, and nut shells into biochar, syngas, and green electricity to maximize resource utilization.

There are many types of biomass feedstocks, including wood, crop residues (e.g. straw, rice husk), livestock and poultry manure, energy crops, etc. Different types of biomass feedstocks differ in their chemical composition and pyrolysis properties, and therefore their final products will also differ.

In July 2024, HaiQi New Energy Group officially signed a project cooperation agreement with France's leading potting soil producer to jointly launch Asia's largest biomass-based Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) heating project.
