In July 2024, HaiQi New Energy Group officially signed a project cooperation agreement with France's leading potting soil producer to jointly launch Asia's largest biomass-based Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) heating project. Ms Stella Cheng, director of HaiQi New Energy Group, attended the signing ceremony. This landmark cross-border collaboration represents a major breakthrough in biomass utilization and sustainable heating, further solidifying HaiQi's global leadership in green energy technology.

Turning Agricultural Waste into Green Value

The project uses agricultural residues—mainly rice straw, wheat straw, and corn stalks—as its primary raw materials. Traditionally, such waste is incinerated or landfilled, leading to resource loss and environmental pollution. By adopting HaiQi's advanced pyrolysis and gasification technology, these agricultural residues can be efficiently converted into combustible gases for heating, while also producing high-quality biochar.

This green technology not only significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also achieves the dual goals of "waste-to-energy"and carbon sequestration, aligning with global carbon neutrality targets and the principles of a circular economy.

What is Pyrolysis Gasification?

Pyrolysis gasification is an advanced biomass conversion process that breaks down organic waste under high-temperature, oxygen-limited (or oxygen-free) conditions into gas, liquid, and solid products. The gaseous component—mainly carbon monoxide, hydrogen, and methane—can serve as a localized energy source for heating or power generation. The solid product, known as biochar, improves soil structure, enhances water retention, and sequesters carbon over the long term, making it a powerful carbon removal solution.

How Biochar Supports Both Agriculture and Climate Goals

Another highlight of the project lies in the effective use of biochar. As a key component in potting soil, biochar improves soil aeration, water-holding capacity, and microbial activity—greatly benefiting plant growth. More importantly, the carbon locked within the biochar remains stable for hundreds of years, providing a long-term solution to climate change.

Moreover, the biochar produced in this project meets international standards for carbon removal and is eligible for certification through platforms such as Puro.earth. This enables project developers and corporate partners to generate verified carbon credits, creating a new model for green revenue.

This collaboration not only upgrades the local energy system with clean alternatives but also promotes ecological management and high-value utilization of agricultural waste. Looking ahead, HaiQi will continue investing in technological innovation and expanding global partnerships, building an integrated solution centered on pyrolysis gasification + biochar + carbon credits.

HaiQi firmly believes that managing waste through ecological approaches, improving soil health, and accelerating low-carbon development are essential steps toward a sustainable future. We remain committed to our green mission and will continue to support the transformation of global agriculture and energy systems.
